Bois des Esprits: In June of 2002,
the City of Winnipeg committed $1 Million dollars to purchase
sensitive lands along the Seine River to be dedicated as a City
Park. The 80-acre forest is described as an 'ecological jewel.'
Additional funds raised by SOS will be matched dollar for dollar
(up to $600,000) and put towards the rescue of the remaining acreage
of forest threatened by development. Robert Bateman has challenged
all Manitoban's to become 'Nature Lovers' by supporting the preservation
of the 'A' Quality Riparian Habitat within the City.

Interpretive Map: Real Berard is
a local artist who has brought historic rivers across Canada to
life in practical and beautiful hand-drawn maps. The blend of
topographical features and history create maps ideal for use in
a canoe or admired mounted on a wall. Paddlers, nature lovers
and collectors alike appreciate the accuracy and skill of these
renowned and highly desirable works of art. The maps raise awareness
of the Seine River's history and its natural features as a beautiful
and navigable canoe route!

Save Our Seine: Yes, Save Our Seine
requires resources everyday. Greenings, Cleanings and Trail Maintenance
use equipment and materials. SOS initiatives require weeks of
preparation and communication, printing, postage and other day-to-day
costs, all necessary to keep the community and other stakeholders
connected and assure successful completion of projects. Our annual
single-day volunteer events require hundreds of dollars for insurance
purposes alone.

Urban Green Team: Each year SOS
finds five of the hardest working students and lets them loose
along the 56 kilometers of the Seine's urban Riverbanks. The results
of their dedicated 'labour of love' are incredible improvements
to the Seine River's Habitat. Each summer the Team ensures that
past plantings get watered, trails are maintained and new trees
are planted. Illegally dumped building materials, shopping carts,
tires, bicycles and log jams are removed. The positive impacts
are noticeable by the day! In addition to supplementing wages,
materials and tools must be purchased by Save Our Seine. Bug repellant
and Sunscreen alone can cost hundreds of dollars each summer!
