Residents
of
southeast
Winnipeg
crowded
into
an
open
house
Wednesday
night
to
hear
more
about
a
developer's
plans
to
build
a
bridge
over
the
Seine
River.
The
bridge,
which
would
extend
from
Southglen
Boulevard,
would
connect
St.
Anne's
Road
with
Royalwood,
a
proposed
700-
home
subdivision
south
of
John
Bruce
Road.
The
environmental
group
Save
our
Seine
has
lobbied
the
city
to
consider
the
ecological
impact
of
the
proposed
bridge
and
development.
The
city
then
commissioned
an
independent
consultant
to
review
the
entire
process.
John
Kiernan
with
the
city's
planning,
property
and
development
department
says
a
new
air
of
cooperation
now
exists
in
the
neighbourhood.
"We've
seen
people
who
are
sort
of
pro-development
saying,
'Okay,
there's
an
environmental
aspect
to
consider
and
look
to
mitigate
some
of
the
impacts,'
and
from
an
environmental
perspective,
there's
an
understanding
that
this
is
a
watershed
in
an
urban
environment,
and
how
is
that
handled
and
how
can
we
move
towards
common
ground
on
living
in
an
urban
centre
but
preserving
this
greenbelt
that
runs
through
the
city,"
he
says.
The
president
of
Save
our
Seine
says
he's
pleased
with
the
options
put
forward
by
the
consultant.
The
development
will
not
be
given
the
green
light
without
more
public
input
and
recommendations
from
a
Riel
community
committee.
