A proposal to build a seniors' apartment complex near the site
of Louis Riel's family mill has been postponed while developers,
Metis Leaders and environmentalists meet.
At a meeting Tuesday a council committee heard from the developer,
who hope to build a 165-unit apartment building on a skinny lot
on St. Anne's Road that backs onto the Seine River.
Both the Save Our Seine environmental group and the Manitoba
Metis Federation have raised concerns that access to a heritage
site may be compromised. The Matter will be back before the committee
in December.
