THE Save Our Seine River Environment Inc. is a finalist
for a Canadian Environment Award.
The group that's been fighting since 1990 to protect
and restore the river and the land it runs through is also lauded
in Canadian Geographic magazine.
More than 600 SOS volunteers have taken part in
riverbank cleanups, preservation activities and campaigned against
development in the Bois-des-esprit, home to wildlife and 100-year-old
burr oak.
The Canadian Environment Awards were founded in
2002 through a partnership with the Government of Canada and support
from private-sector sponsors. The awards will be presented at
a ceremony in Calgary May 31.
The Canadian Environment Award is the third feather
in SOS's cap in as many months. Earlier this month, it received
the Mayor's Volunteer Service Award. In March, it received the
Manitoba Naturalists Society 2004 Prairie Crocus Award.
