Winter Walks

The following guide prepared by Rivers West describes a 1.8 km winter walk on the Seine River between John Bruce Bridge to Bishop Grandin using the frozen river one way and the Louis Riel Senior trail the other followed by another 5.6 km round trip walk on the river between John Bruce Bridge to Southglen Bridge. The guide contains interesting descriptions of the history of the area being walked as well as other parts of the Seine River, including discussions about the origins of the name Seine River. John Bruce, Louis Riel Senior, the Lagemodierre’s, Bishop Grandin and the de Meurons. There are also insights into the ecology of the areas with useful notes on oxbows, riparian zones and the tracks of local wildlife. Information is also provided of the impact of the Red River Floodway on Seine River flows.
