During
his
whirlwind
North
American
book
tour,
renowned
wildlife
painter
Robert
Bateman,
stopped
in
Winnipeg
for
a
'book-signing'
in
Fall
2002
and
to
present
a
slide
presentation
at
McNally
Robinson
Book
Sellers.
Members
of
SOS
attended
and
enjoyed
Mr.
Bateman's
presentation.
His
presentation
provided
a
message
about
the
human
impacts
on
the
environment.
From
both
an
artist's
and
an
environmentalist's
perspective,
his
message
was
clear,
we
are
drastically
and
horribly
changing
the
natural
world.
Save
Our
Seine
informed
Mr.
Bateman
about
the
group's
initiatives
and
projects
here
in
Winnipeg.
Mr.
Bateman
was
impressed
with
the
Bois
des
Esprits
forest
and
the
fundraising
effort
with
the
City
of
Winnipeg
to
rescue
the
sensitive
natural
area
from
development.
As
a
result
Mr.
Bateman,
a
resident
of
B.C.,
has
issued
a
challenge
to
all
Manitobans
to
become
'Nature
Lovers'
by
donating
$50
to
preserve
the
Bois
des
Esprits.
All
donations
of
$50
or
more
that
have
been
received
or
are
received
before
September
2003
will
be
entered
into
a
draw
for
a
signed
copy
of
Birds.
Mr.
Bateman
drew
another
animal
on
the
front
page
next
to
his
signature.

Dear
fellow
nature-lovers,
I
am
pleased
to
lend
my
support
to
the
Save
Our
Seine
River
Environment
Inc.
Project
in
their
efforts
to
help
purchase
and
forever
protect
the
pristine
forest
known
as
Bois
des
Esprits
in
Winnipeg.
This
river
bottom
forest
with
its
valuable
wetlands
and
vestiges
of
old
river
oxbows
is
a
fascinating
ecological
jewel
that
must
be
protected
for
future
generations,
in
other
words
our
very
own
grandchildren.
I
challenge
you
to
match
or
beat
my
symbolic
donation
of
$50,
at
the
'Nature
Lover'
level.
SOS
will
enter
all
donations
of
$50+
in
a
special
draw
to
win
a
personalized
copy
of
my
newest
book
BIRDS.
Please
contribute.
Your
donation
will
be
matched
by
the
City
of
Winnipeg,
and
every
dollar
makes
a
difference.
Thank
you
and
good
luck
in
the
draw!
