We are thrilled to share some very good news for our river community.
City Council’s decision to renew and increase Save Our Seine’s annual operating grant to $35,000 is more than a budget line. It is a clear vote of confidence in community-based stewardship, environmental restoration, and the volunteers, students, and families who care deeply about the Seine River.
We want to extend our sincere thanks to Councillor Brian Mayes, Councillor Matt Allard, and Councillor Markus Chambers for their leadership and continued support. Each of them represents communities that live alongside the Seine. Their advocacy reflects an understanding that healthy rivers strengthen neighbourhoods, improve climate resilience, and create spaces for education, reconciliation, and connection.
Stable operating support allows us to:
Deliver hands-on riverbank restoration and habitat enhancement
Engage youth and schools in watershed education
Mobilize volunteers for cleanups and land care
Strengthen partnerships that amplify impact across Winnipeg
Environmental work is long-term work. It requires consistency, collaboration, and trust. This renewed commitment from Council helps ensure that Save Our Seine can continue protecting, restoring, and celebrating the river that runs through so many of our communities.
To our councillors: thank you for standing with the Seine.
To our supporters and volunteers: this win belongs to you as well. Your dedication makes the work visible, meaningful, and impossible to ignore.
A river lies waiting to be discovered. And together, we are making sure it thrives.
