Family Dip-Netting Workshop: Discover the Hidden Life of the Seine

Updated: 1 day ago

Date: Saturday July 11th

Time: 10 - Noon

Location: Meet up at the South side Bois-Des-Esprit just off the Royal Wood Bridge east bank

of the Seine (Shorehill Drive). Parking available at the South Glen Shopping Centre. 710 St

Anne's Rd.

Join SOS and Sarah Warrak (IISD- Experimental Lakes Area) and dive into the fascinating world

of freshwater science! In this hands-on family workshop, participants will discover the tiny

organisms that live in our lakes and ponds, known as zooplankton. Families will learn why

zooplankton are important to aquatic food webs and how scientists use them to understand lake

health.

Participants will get the chance to use real scientific sampling equipment, collect zooplankton

samples, and examine their findings up close. Through interactive activities and guided

exploration, families will learn how freshwater scientists monitor aquatic ecosystems and how

these microscopic creatures help tell the story of a lake's health.

Perfect for curious learners of all ages, this workshop combines outdoor exploration, scientific

discovery, and hands-on learning to inspire a deeper appreciation for our freshwater

environments.

Workshop supported by Manitoba Habitat Conservancy and the International Institute for

Sustainable Development.
