Save Our Seine and Niakwa Country Club Partnering for the Environment

It was a historic occasion for SOS last week as we formed our first partnership with a local golf club. On February 10, members from SOS and Niakwa Country Club (NCC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation towards the common goal of protecting our environment.

The NCC is working on obtaining certification in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program (ACSP) for golf. This award-winning program helps golf courses protect our environment and preserve the natural heritage of golf. Seeing that NCC is directly adjacent to the Seine River, and that the environmental objectives of the ACSP are consistent with the objectives of SOS, a partnership was a natural fit. By working together, we can coordinate our efforts and more effectively protect and enhance this portion of the Seine River greenway.

Some of the areas that we plan to work on together include:

  • Working cooperatively together on environmental, educational, and public awareness projects,

  • Coordinating logistics and volunteer labour for weed removal and tree planting,

  • And more!

We are very excited for this great opportunity to further help the Seine River environment and we look forward to working with the NCC towards their goal of eco-friendliness and ACSP certification.
