On February 15, Save Our Seine, in conjunction with OURS-Winnipeg, held an online forum on the risks to our greenspaces posed by the OurWinnipeg 2045 and Complete Communities 2.0 development planning documents (recording available here).
We have now learned that the public hearing for these documents will be on Thursday, May 13. The hearing is where residents may present their views (virtually) to the Executive Policy Committee of City Council. Now is the time to tell City Council and the Mayor that the documents must be revised to avoid the irreversible loss of our greenspaces. In their current state, both documents show the City’s lack of commitment to greenspace protection and planning as well as their willingness to reduce parkland and natural areas over the next 25 years.
Here is what you can do:
Sign the petition here and share it with all of your contacts.
Write a letter to the City Councillors and the Mayor. See here for a template and their email addresses.
Post copies of the OURS-Winnipeg poster around your neighbourhood and at your local parks.
Prepare a presentation to give at the public hearing. Presentations are limited to 10 minutes. If you are unable to attend, you may still submit something and have it become part of the public record. Information about how to register to present at the hearing will be sent out closer to the date.
If you would like to learn more about this issue, we are again joining forces with OURS-Winnipeg for a public engagement and mobilization forum on Thursday, May 6 at 6:30 pm. We need to mobilize the community to bring our concerns to the City of Winnipeg. We may not get another chance!
This forum will be followed by a discussion period with the participants.
